My Thoughts

Home

Moving is not one of my favorite things to do. I have moved 19 times in my life and that means change. That means different houses, schools, friends, churches, shopping, doctors, groomers and many other changes. Living in different states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska and Arizona sees a change in culture and weather.

When I think of each of these places I called them home. Even though all of them were very different I still called them home. Why? Well as far as I can tell home for me is not the place but the people that live in that house.

I come in the door and many times I have been greeted by someone I love. Now granted once in the door I probably start thinking of all the things I need to get done like laundry, groceries, cleaning but those things are done for the people I love. I want to make my home a welcoming place, a secure place.

Jesus had a few homes that he visited often because they were welcoming and a secure place for rest. Most of all it was the people that lived there, those He loved. I’m sure he found joy and laughter, deep conversations and most of all love.

Are our homes that safe place for our loved ones? No matter where that home is or what it looks like. Home is the people that walk in the door and say HI! I’m Home!

  1. Thank you, Brenda, for your thoughts. This is the second one I have read and I really enjoy them and learn from them. We are doing fine. Say hi to your Mom. Bonnie

  2. Very true Brenda. We are now retired in Hudsonville, MI. We have a camper on Dumont Lake Family Campground. One of mats has the sentence, “Home is where you park it.” This is true. Our children and grandchildren visit and it is home…the safe place…the loving space…the secure place.
