My Thoughts

Recipes

This is the time of year that we dust off the 1978 Betty Crocker Cookbook and pull out our well-used recipe cards, stained with splatters from many uses in the past. The memories come back as we gather the ingredients, and wonderful smells of baking fill the house. We all have our favorite recipes that are anticipated by family and friends, like that special sugar cookie recipe. All the cookie cutters that are stored away for most of the year. The many colored frostings, of course, that are made to decorate the cookies. The fun part is frosting the cookies and usually you’re not alone in the kitchen because you have kids anxiously waiting to be helpers!

What about the recipe for Mom’s Taffy Apple Salad? Or the Pinwheel Cookies? The Chex Mix never lasts long! Maybe you’re thinking of some recipes that you have made and remember with a smile the fun that it was making it or better yet eating it.

I love making Rice Krispies bars with my grandchildren. It’s simple and oh so yummy! We’re making new memories. I also enjoy the conversations while in the kitchen. And the big decision – who gets to lick the spoon or the pan. It’s a big deal!

This may be a leap but I’m also thinking about a recipe for life. So many books and articles have been written about the best way to live your life. Many we read once and put it away. They end up at a garage sale or maybe a used book store.

One “recipe” for life comes to mind, a favorite and I go to it often. Maybe you know it.
It’s found in the Bible, John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
